“2023: Challenges and Opportunities for Congress”
The United States and the World are in a very sensitive state. Both at home and abroad, the federal government is dealing with multiple crises while also combatting the rise of partisanship and extremism. Come hear Representative Peters discuss his current priorities in Congress, successes from this past year such as historic investments in infrastructure, combatting climate change, and reducing the costs of prescription drugs, as well as ongoing challenges such as the war in Europe, increasing tensions with China, and the nationwide protests in Iran.
Congressman Scott Peters serves California’s 50th Congressional district, which includes the cities of Coronado, San Marcos, coastal San Diego, and southern Escondido, along with Rancho Santa Fe and other central unincorporated areas. First elected in 2012, he currently serves on the House Budget Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the Joint Economic Committee, as well as the Small Business Committee.
Scott Peters is a civic leader who has made improving the quality of life in San Diego his life’s work. As a Member of Congress, Scott’s emphasis has been advancing practical and critical climate policies, promoting, and expanding San Diego’s innovation ecosystem, advocating for San Diego’s pivotal role as a partner in the national defense, and making government work again. Ranked the 4th most independent Democrat in Congress by the National Journal, Scott Peters understands that business problems have bipartisan solutions, and is never afraid to work across party lines to build consensus and get things done.
