AIAP would like to invite you to its 8th virtual general meeting in 2020. AIAP will hold its monthly meeting one week early on November 18th, from 7 to 8 pm to allow members to have time with their families on Thanksgiving eve.

Our guest speaker will be Dr. Pouya Alimagham. Dr. Alimagham is a historian of the modern Middle East at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a visiting lecturer at Boston University's Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies. His research interests inter alia focus on contentious politics, social movements, and Islamism. His PhD dissertation, Contesting the Iranian Revolution: The Green Uprisings, which was awarded the Association for Iranian Studies Mehrdad Mashayekhi Dissertation Award, was recently published by Cambridge University Press. His other articles and book chapters cover the Arab Spring, Iranian protest music, women in Middle East revolutions, sectarianism, and the psycho-history of post-9/11 discourse. In the spring of 2019, MIT’s School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS) awarded him the Levitan Teaching Award – an award that was the result of a student-initiated process.

Dr. Alimagham's speech will be in English. Even though the time provided for this presentation is one hour, in case the Q&A segment required more time, additional time could be allocated accordingly.

This event is Free to public. At the time of meeting, simply go to the Zoom link here to join the live event.

Please send us your questions via email to admin@aiap.org or call us at (858)215-2427. Also, you can ask our speaker directly during the live session.
