    Topic: Psychological Foundation of a Dictator

    About the speakers:

     Dr. Nehzat Farnoody, Ph.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a Specialty in Cross-Cultural Psychology. Dr. Farnoody received her undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Iran. In 1969 she was accepted to the Masters program in Clinical Psychology at Kansas University and immigrated to the United States with her family.

    Dr. Farnoody has provided over 20 years of community service here in Los Angeles, in an effort to raise awareness on Mental Health, and has hosted several Media Literacy programs in helping families cope with cross-cultural conflicts. From 1989 to 1992 Dr. Farnoody hosted the first Iranian-American Radio and TV program on psychological topics related to the needs of the Iranian-American community. From 1995 to 2001 she hosted several Radio and TV psychology media literacy programs and since 2002, has been the host of a popular satellite TV Talk Show called, “Inner Sight (Negahi be Daroon)” on American Farsi Network (www.AFNL.com) where she has an opportunity to reach out, educate, and raise awareness on Mental Health and psychological principles of parenting and healthy families for the Iranian-Americans, as well as the Iranians living in the global community.

    Dr. Farnoody has presented at over 200 seminars, conferences, and lectures on psychological and sociocultural topics such as: Successful Relationships, Parenting, Healthy Families, Healthy Societies, The Psychology of Democracy, Psychology of Love, Emotional Intelligence, and several other topics (see seminars). Since 1986 Dr. Farnoody has been a guest lecturer to prestigious Universities such Brown University, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, John Hopkins University, and several others

    The AIAP's May hike will be at Daley Ranch and Stanley Peak in Escondido. 

    When: Sunday, May 19th, 2024 

    Time to Meet: We will meet at 7:45am at the park entrance parking lot, 2256 La Honda drive, Escondido, 92027 and start promptly at 8:00.

    The hike is approximately 6 miles with some mild incline. We will be hiking up to Stanley peak, with a round trip distance of approximately 6 miles and will take about 4 hours. There are several picnic areas in the park with picnic tables for us to use for breakfast.

    Daley Ranch is a 3,201-acre conservation area acquired in 1996 by the City of Escondido and is managed in perpetuity for the preservation of a biologically unique and diverse habitat area of regional importance. Visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational and educational opportunities and experiences in a historically significant setting. The property contains a number of natural vegetation communities including lush oak woodlands, coastal sage scrub and chaparral, grasslands, and riparian areas.

    Please bring water, snacks, sharable breakfast and wear comfortable hiking shoes.

    Presenter: Dr. Zohreh Ghahremani

    Topic: The gift of an immigrant author to the younger generation

    Main Presentation: Zohreh writes stories that involve both her cultures.  She believes that writing is one of the best venues to pass her ancient heritage to the younger generation.  All her books fall under the category of fact-based literary fiction.

    About the speaker: Zohreh Ghahremani is an Iranian American writer, speaker, and a painter whose work is influenced by her background as a poet.  She gave up a successful profession both as a pediatric dentist and a university professor in order to pursue her passion in writing. She has authored four books, contributed to multiple anthologies and is currently working on two other novels.  An award-winning author, Zohreh teaches at San Diego Writers Ink and runs a private writing workshop. She is a board member of Friends of San Diego Central library and is the founder and coordinator of Author of the Month program.  (For more info, please check out WWW.Zohrehwrites.com)
