Kiarash is a 3rd year PhD student in Nano-engineering at University of California San Diego (UCSD). He moved to United States in 2005 and obtained his bachelor in Physics from UC Berkeley in 2009. During past decade Kiarash has been involved in several organizations and activities. Below is a list of his past experiences and responsibilities:
1-Public Relation Director/Vice President of Association of Iranian- American Professionals (AIAP) in San Diego (2010-2012)
2-Co-founder and activist of “One Million Signature” campaign in Northern California demanding equal rights for Iranian women. (2008-2010)
3- Director of AVA Ensemble in UCSD. AVA Ensemble is a student organization based in UCSD which focuses on Iranian alternative music. (2010-Present)
4-Webmaster of student government in San Diego Mesa College. (2006-2007)
5-Co-founders of National Physics Student Organization (PSO) in Iran. (PSO) was a nationwide organization under direct supervision of President Khatami’s Higher Education administration to improve and organize physics students’ activities nationwide. (2001-2002)
6-President of Physics Student Association in Bu-Ali Sina University.(2001-2003)
7-Political activist/volunteer in Islamic Student Association in Bu-Ali Sina University.
My involvement in AIAP as the public relation director and vice president of the organization has been an invaluable experience for me. I believe I have gained an in-depth understanding of the structure of AIAP as well as its potentials to grow to a larger and more effective organization in Iranian-American community. It is needless to mention that all the achievements and successes of AIAP as well as its weaknesses is a result of a close teamwork and partnership between members of the board of directors of AIAP and its volunteers. However below are the few activities that I have been heavily involved with during past two years serving the community:
1- A complete change of AIAP website to a more functional infrastructure which has a lot more functionality and ease of use.
2- Successful Happy hours and social networking events.
3- Growth in number of AIAP members.
4- Attracting more young professionals to AIAP.
If I get re-elected as a member of the board of directors of AIAP, I will have the following plans for the next two years:
1-Implementing a modular structure in the AIAP system. As the result of this system individuals with new ideas and activities can form and lead a team and perform different activities independently and use AIAP as platform for their activities and projects, with the condition that these activities are within the bylaw of AIAP.
2-Connect to the larger Iranian community and organizations in North America and work effectively to publicize AIAP.
3-Revision and modification to the bylaw of AIAP, and clarification of ambiguous sections of the bylaw."
