About this Talk:
DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is the most interesting molecule in nature that holds the genetic information used in the foundation, development and performance of all known living organisms (with the exclusion of RNA viruses). The key role of DNA molecules is the enduring storage of information; the mind and intelligence behind the creation. This wonderful molecule is often compared to a perfect set of blueprints, like a recipe or a code for life in any know form, since it contains the directions needed to assemble other components of cells, such as proteins and RNA molecules. DNA discovery has been called the single biggest science discovery of all time. The DNA segments that take these genetic blueprints are called genes, but other DNA sequences have structural functions, or are involved in tuning the exploit of this genetic information. In this talk we will explore together the history, secrets and the future frontiers of DNA: the “playing god” molecule that dictates the origin of life, human race, death, cancer, mind and meaning.
About Dr. Asadi:
Dr Asadi has recieved his M.S. in Organic Chemistry from National University of Iran. The he moved to Canada to get his Ph.D. in Bio-Organic Chemistry from University of British Columbia. He has done two post-docs in Anticancer Agents and Organometallic Chemistry at the University of British Columbia. He then moved to U.S. to do his 3rd post-doc in Molecular Assembly at the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego. Currently he is a research scientist in DNA Sequencing and Biophysics at the Scripps Research Institute.
