About this Talk:
This talk will look at the sociological and political factors defining this presidential election by analyzing the state objectives, the composition of candidates and their agenda, coalitions and divisions among different factions, and the institutional and ideological structures supporting or challenging the electoral process and its imports. Voter behaviors and tendencies in this election will be analyzed and compared to those of the earlier electoral participation.
About Dr. Mahdi:
Emeritus professor of Sociology at Ohio Wesleyan University, Dr. Ali Akbar Mahdi has taught at Michigan State University, Adrian College, Central State University, and is currently teaching sociology at California State University, Northridge. He has authored books including “Culture and Customs of Iran” (co-author), “Sociology in Iran”(co-author), "Sociology of the Iranian Family,” and “Iranian Culture, Civil Society, and Concern for Democracy.” He has served as the executive director of the Center for Iranian Research and Analysis(CIRA), Editor of Michigan Sociological Review, and President of Michigan Sociological Association. He has authored numerous articles and given many lectures and interviews on Iran and the Middle East in English as well as in Persian
