Los Angeles, CA –March 17, 2014 – Tara Gallery is proud to featureNature in Abstraction, a rare and notable exhibition of contemporary paintings by Mostafa Dashti, a prominent Iranian artist who lives and works in Iran. His exceptional landscapes will be featured in the States for the first time thanks to the charitable efforts of the Tara Gallery located in Santa Monica and dedicated to importing and cultivating art from Iran.
The exhibition will run from April 12 through May 14, 2014 at Tara Gallery. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, April 12 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. There are many other exceptional pieces in this exhibition, which reflect the texture of the artist's homeland as he perceives it. While Dashti himself is unable to visit the U.S, his work resonates on a global scale attracting audiences from all over the world, including legendary German artist, Karl Schlamminger:
“There is something magic about Mostafa Dashti's work. It is as if he had dashed fragments of dreams onto the canvas: Fragmented moments of despair. Tumbling backwards into tsunamis, tornados or glowing streams of lava he loses himself in the spiral nebulae. Dashti grabs his motifs from these tempests and tosses them as after-images into the paintings. They are not imitations but real. They are a photographic blink of the eye. What we see are seascapes and cloudscapes, ripped open horizons, faint and dramatic, distant and close fogs, as if it only could be like this. These paintings seem to be cameraless photographs processed in Dashti's head: developed, washed and fixed in the bath of time.”

Dear AIAP Members, We had brought to your attention that we would conduct an election of new members for 2014-2015 AIAP board of directors in December 18th meeting. We also had called for candidates for this election, by email and in our past monthly meetings. However, we have had five candidates who have formally declared their candidacy for the board. As the number of the candidates happened to be the same as the number of outgoing current board members, the board did not see any reason to conduct a formal voting process. At the December 18th meeting, we will introduce the five candidates as the official new members of the AIAP board of directors effective January 1, 2014. The board is very proud to have five highly qualified new board members to join the board to serve our community. A short bio of each candidate is attached for your information. The board would always welcome any interested qualified AIAP members to declare their willingness to join the board as alternate members of the board of directors who will serve the board as non-voting board members.
Due to the commitment of both organizations to bring humanitarian activities to the next level, AIAP will host two members of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) - Kasra Movahedi (Deputy Director of IRC San Diego) and Sophie Cheetham (Employment Relations Supervisor) in the October 30th general Meeting.
IRC responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. (Read more)
